2. Tony’s team will vastly improve after May. That’s the point when Tony heads to Maine and Scott takes over and uses his years of experience in life to outwit and out maneuver the rest of us.
3. In this year’s labor agreements a hot topic was the amount of acquisitions allowed per week. After intense negations on the corner of 10th Ave and Cranford Place in Greeley, Colorado, a deal was struck after a one week extension on the draft date. This year each team will be allowed four acquisitions per week.
4. Trades have been a non-factor. Last year there was one riveting trade with seldom used Kevin Gregg the headliner. However, I hear a rumor the commish wants more excitement in the league this year and will be pushing trade negations.
5. If you want a Colorado Rockie you will have to reach for them. Two years ago, Rockies enthusiast Benny Hackett drafted a total of 13 Rockies and the other 12 were split up throughout the league making them the only full team drafted. So you can either draft your loveable home town heroes early or take advantage of others eagerness…….
6. Two years ago the league point scale heavily favored home run hitters. After last year’s labor agreement, rules were put into effect to create a more balanced point scale. The rules worked so a balanced team is a must.
7. In the later rounds look for “Mike” pitchers. “Mike” pitchers are who ESPN has listed as RP, but are starting for their usually not so good teams. These guys usually out produce the other relievers, due to the fact they get almost double the innings. I call them “Mike” pitchers because Mike always seems to find these guys and it drives the rest of the league nuts!
8. Making tough cuts and calling up guys from the minors leads to success. Of the top 5 teams in roster moves last year 4 finished in the top 5 at the end of the regular season. The only one who didn’t was Cridlebaugh and that’s because he didn’t start caring and making his moves until mid June. Don’t be afraid to let a slumping player go for an eager guy looking to show you what he has.
9. StiffD is no longer a sexist league and would like to welcome Ms. Cutter (Off All Day). Having a female will bring an added component to the league this year. Natalie is one hell of a shit talker and will not back down or be afraid to say anything. Although that frightens me, we have never had someone like that so it should mix things up a bit.
10. Be careful at the draft. This is the most important thing to know about the StiffD fantasy league. Which is also why I am putting it last in hopes that no one will get this far so I can take advantage. Every year we throw a party and draft. Sounds harmless right? Except for the fact that there is a ton of beer and by the 15th round people are drafting guys on the DL for the first 4 months! Last year Tish drafted Joe Nathan in the 27th round and he was out for the season. There are 30 rounds so pace yourself and try not to overdue it…..Houser!
