A-Town Power Rankings
WEEK 1
Although I don’t think Anton has the best team out of the
gate this year, I’m going to give the Champ his due and keep him at the top
until someone takes him down. Anton is
on a fantasy streak of late killing it in baseball as well and last year made
me look like a fool with a preseason ranking of 10. My favorite part of Anton’s team is his WR
combination of Fitz, Steve Smith and Stevie Johnson. Getting Fitz in the second
round of a 14 team PPR league is a steal and his numbers should be just fine with
Skelton being named the starter in AZ. This biggest concern for this team, even
though he refuses to admit it, is at QB with Ryan Fitzpatrick. Honestly he’s
just not that good and Anton has no backup.
2. Garret
Well the one thing we know for sure is that Garret and the
Broncos are both all in on Payton Manning. He has no backup and has Thomas as
his number 2 WR. Manning should be a
serviceable fantasy QB, but don’t expect Manning of old to all of a sudden show
up. I love this team’s personnel at RB
and WR and on top of that Garret has bench players with huge upside. This team is built for the long haul to
handle any kind of adversity so I expect Garret to be atop my ranking all year.
3. Joe
Joe reached early on Brees, but found good value later in
the draft. I particularly like Brandon Lloyd and Reggie Bush. I know they are both huge question marks to
some people, but they are two very talented players who have proven they can
get the job done. Joe’s weak spot is
definitely his bench where he has players with little upside. A few big injuries could really derail this
team’s hope for a successful season, but for now he sits in the top 3 of my
rankings.
4. Alex
I already know Alex is going to be upset with my ranking
because he always feels he is the best and should be #1! Well Alex you get me
in week 1 so that’s a great time to prove it! If all goes according to plan
Alex does actually have a very strong team and so far it has with MJD ending
his holdout. Calvin is obviously the
best WR in the game and Brown seemed to make huge strides last year and in the
off season with Wallace holding out. If
Doug Martin plays like the reports are saying, he will be a huge asset and
luxury to this team.
5. Pop
I paid very close attention to Pop’s team because he choose
right in front of me and kept taking my players. My favorite pick was Eli Manning. His two best weapons went in the first 3
rounds, but he fell to the 4th round, tell me how that makes sense? White and
Johnson give pop star power at WR and with Rice at RB Pop’s may have the most
high profile names of any team. The only
question for this team is who is going to step up and fill the flex position.
6. Dan
Dan can’t fall lower than 6th based on the fact
that he has the best football player on the planet on his team in Aaron Rogers. With his back to back picks in the 2nd
and 3rd round, Dan went with a bold strategy and took two WR instead
of a RB and it came back to haunt him.
Have Shone Green as your number 1 RB isn’t good in any league. Dan isn’t strong at TE and has a very thin
bench meaning his fate in fantasy this year will be decided on what crazy trade
he will be able to pull off.
7. Zach
Zach’s team is probably better than 7th, but he’s
new to the league and wasn’t there on draft day so he is going to have to earn
his spot. The strength of this team is
at RB. McFadden has the potential to be the best in the game and Sproles proved
last year that he is a top notch PPR back.
Kevin Smith adds great depth and Zach made sure to get McFadden’s back
up in Goodson. However, Zach is going to
struggle at WR. He really needs Floyd to
break out and do big things. Call me
crazy but I predict Hernandez will have just as good a year as Gronk.
8. Clay
First off it was very nice to see Clay at the draft
considering he lives in another country and said he wouldn’t be playing this
year. I loved Clay’s first 4 picks, but
then things got a little iffy for me. He
is going to be nervous all year about WR and Coloston is more of a #2 guy than
someone you want as your top pass catcher.
Clay also lacks quality bench players. On a positive note, Clay was able
to grab Crosby for like the 4th year in a row and Cam Newton is one
of my favorite players.
9. Jeff
Things I like about Jeff’s team: Julio Jones, Tom Brady’s
hair, his team name and Buffalo’s run game.
Things I dislike: 3 TE’s that all suck, 2 of 4 WR’s have never caught an
NFL pass, 2 RB’s who will get a combined 15 carries a week, and F-ing Vincent
Jackson! I believe all this adds up to a
5-8 record and Jeff being pissed off.
10. Gill
I’m not sure what to think of my team so I ranked myself 10
for these reasons: 1) I hate odd numbers
and 10 is a very solid even number; 2) I pre-ranked Anton 10 last year and he
won it all; 3) Somehow none of my players have a bye in week 10; and 4) My
starting TE Kyle Rudolph is going to get me exactly 10 points every week. Basically what I’m saying is that my season
is hindering on the play of Rapelisberger or a 3rd round quarterback who has played in more professional baseball games than NFL games.
11. Logan
So when Logan picked Murray in the first round I thought it
was a great pick. Apparently Logan and I
are the only ones who feel that way. He
went in at least the 2nd round in every other draft I did and the
general theme is that people are down on him this year (Woops). I honestly like Logan’s team and want to give
him the benefit of the doubt, but he has by far the most injury prone team and
around week 5 may struggle to find 8 healthy players. Who knows, maybe Vick
will play like he did 2 years ago and lead Logs to fantasy immortality.
12. Mike
So this ranking may be out of spite that in our fantasy
baseball league I have the number 1 team by a landslide and am losing to Mike
in the playoffs right now! I really like Stafford and Welker obviously, but I’m
also a huge fan of Donald Brown and Greg Olson.
Mike did a good job in the later rounds.
The reason I have Mike in the bottom third of my rankings are the age of
his primary running backs. Turner and
McGahee are just plain old for NFL standards and won’t get the work load Mike
is expecting. Janikowski may kick some late winners for Mike, but in the end I
see him falling short of the playoffs.
13. Kristen
Kristen’s draft turned into a mess in a hurry. I’m not sure
which picks were made by her and which were auto-drafted except for the defense
in the 7th round! You know you’re in trouble when in a PPR league
you only have 3 WR’s and two of them are Caucasian. To make things worse, Kristen has not only
two defenses, but two Kickers. That’s right two kickers, what else can I say.
14. Chris
This was a tough one for me because I did the actual picking
of Chris’s players for him on draft day.
Just so everyone is clear, Chris gave me a very specific list and plan
of what to do so the decisions were completely his. Chris had 3 players he had to have and got
them all so that was a plus. Chris knew
his strategy of drafting back to back TE was out of the box so I think he expected
to be at the bottom here, but he will have his chance to prove he’s not that
crazy after all. I wish him the best.
Gill, I love this about our league. That is your weekly blog. Just make me 8-5 and we're good! I've decided that an early pick does make things tough though. Anyway, great as always. Also, Alex should be 14th because he is a pretty pretty princess.
ReplyDeleteNo shit I am and don't you forget that! Also I'll take 4 and only butch a little since I'll have to struggle for the first few weeks while MJD gets back into things.... Then watch out league (and that #1 ranking) im here to play!
